MAY (the fourth) & reasons to celebrate

MAY is a great month and there’s lots to celebrate…here are a few reasons.

1. May 4th – unless you have been in another galaxy, this humdrum Monday is in fact May the Fourth, a.k.a. Star Wars Day,  Yes, even if you’re not a huge Star Wars fan, it is a big celebration day. The date was chosen for the easy pun on the catchphrase “May the Force be with you”—”May the fourth be with you” (so now you know, yes, I’n nerdy that way!).

2. May 6th – is National Nurses Day– a day to honor the 3.1 million registered nurses in the United States. The American Nurses Association marks this day as the start of the National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12,  Florence Nightingale’s birthday. What a remarkable woman who had, in those days, such foresight and  somewhat radical views on nursing, and medical practice. It is amazing that today, most of her notes still applies.  The ANA’s theme for national nurses week is

3. May 10 is Mother’s Day – “Every successful child is the product of an enthusiastic mother.”Let’s celebrate the special woman in our lives who had the vision, love, enthusiasm, perseverance and patience to get us to where we are now.

4. Oncology Nurses Month – celebrate the accomplishments of oncology RNs who’ve made a difference in the lives of people with cancer and their families. For more info, click here
